Who are the top female musicians of the 1970s?
This list has been compiled from multiple websites and notes the top ten female artists of the 1970s in terms of charting during the era. The artists listed are also there due to the longevity of their work. The song listed with the artist represents one of their top songs with a theme in which to be explored. There will also be a biography about five of the artists that examines their connection, if any, to the feminist movement. These five represent different sectors of the feminist movement based on their genre.
Honorable mentions to be discussed but not included in the top ten list include Cher, Helen Reddy, Stevie Nicks, and Joni Mitchell.

** Linda Ronstadt's "You're No Good" does not appear on the charts. This is because the song did not reach the Top 40 charts until 1975, a year after it was released. In 1975, it peaked at number on the charts. These charts are based on the year the song was released.
