A look into the Impact of The Rise of Second Wave Feminism and Its Impact on Female Musicians

Linda Ronstadt
Linda Ronstadt has been known for decades for her staunch, and sometimes contradictory, political opinions. Back in the 1970s, she embraced conservative values and was outspoken supporter of patriotism. She, however, also came from a Mexican American background and aligned with the feminist movement of the 1970s, to a certain extent. Today, Ronstadt remains politically active for the Democratic Party.

One of the major reasons Ronstadt was considered a feminist icon of the 1970s was because she did not fit into anyone else's boxes. Regardless of if the opinion was popular or not, she shared what she believed. She could not be tied down to a singular party or belief system. She embodied an independent woman at a time when that was not yet socially acceptable.
"You're No Good"
The song "You're No Good" embraced the idea of a woman's choice in a relationship. The woman has the power to leave and to make decisions. In this case, she chose to leave a relationship because the man was "no good". It also talks about the strength the woman possesses and that she does not need a man to survive.
The Song
Lyrics
Feelin' better now that we're through
Feelin' better, 'cause I'm over you
I learned my lesson, it left a scar
Now I see how you really are
You're no good
You're no good
You're no good
Baby, you're no good
I'm gonna say it again
You're no good
You're no good
You're no good
Baby, you're no good
I broke a heart that's gentle and true
Well, I broke a heart over someone like you
I'll beg his forgiveness on bended knee
I wouldn't blame him if he said to me
You're no good
You're no good
You're no good
Baby, you're no good
I'm gonna say it again
You're no good
You're no good
You're no good
Baby, you're no good
I'm tellin' you now, baby
And I'm going my way
Forget about you, baby
'Cause I'm leavin' to stay
You're no good
You're no good
You're no good
Baby, you're no good
I'm gonna say it again
You're no good
You're no good
You're no good
Baby, you're no good
Oh, oh, no
You're no good
You're no good
You're no good
Baby, you're no good
You're no good
You're no good
You're no good
You're no good
You're no good
You're no good, oh
You're no good
You're no good
You're no good
You're no good
You're no good, oh
You're no good
You're no good
You're no good
You're no good
You're no good
You're no good, whoa
You're no good
You're no good
You're no good
Maybe you're good
